Behaviour Management

Discipline in schools is a matter of respecting the wishes and needs of others and caring for their surroundings. Most children, as you no doubt are aware, gradually acquire this knowledge but sometimes need reminding. A quiet word, pressure from classmates, withdrawal of privileges is usually sufficient to resolve the matter. School after all, is a place where both staff and children must co-exist happily. If the problem persists, despite the actions taken, or is of a more serious nature, parents will be contacted for their co-operation.

Reward Systems

We encourage positive behaviour at all times and there are various successful strategies in place that enhance positive behaviour.  Within each class there are reward systems, where each child is rewarded for effort, good work etc.  In order to enhance co-operation and team building skills there is an effective 'House Point' System in place.  Each child within the school is placed in a house: Balmeanch, Findon and Greenleonachs (families are in the same house) and  are encouraged to earn points as a team.  The children each have a house book and collect stickers for good team work, manners, helping out, good class work, good playing etc. Once a child receives 10 stickers they earn a house point. On earning a 'House Point' they receive a certificate from the Head Teacher.  Each child is encouraged to earn 2 House Points a term.  At the end of the term the House with the most points receives a prize.

Circle Time and Golden Time    clipart Golden Time

We have 'Golden Rules' that encourage positive behaviour amongst the children.   There is a weekly Golden Time session (30 minutes) where the children celebrate their positive behaviour by participating in activities of their choice.  Children who break the 'Golden Rules' are given a warning, if they continue to do so they lose 5 minutes, then 10 minutes of 'Golden Time'. The 'Golden Rules' are reinforced during Circle Time and various activities are carried out which encourage the children to think about the' Golden Rules.'

It is important for children to recognise their feelings and the feelings of others'. Children participate in weekly Circle Time sessions where they are encouraged to share their opinions and feelings.  Circle Time enhances self esteem and encourages children to become independent thinkers.  Circle Time consists of a fun warm up game, thinking/talking round, a discussion and a cool down game.

Links With Parents  clipart traffic lights

The link between school and home is crucial in order to enhance positive behaviour, therefore there is a traffic light system in place.  Each child has a traffic light record (similar to the one below) and the class teacher informs the children of 'their' traffic lights for the day. At the end of the day each child colours in the sections using the appropriate colour.
